5 on Friday - Volume 16

ONE.  In honor of the upcoming holiday, I'm co-hosting a link-up party on the blog next week with some really awesome mamas where YOU (bloggers and Instagrammers) can share photos of your kiddos in their all-American best!  The link-up will run from July 1 through July 7.  All you have to do is post pictures of your kid in red/white/blue on your blog and come back here and link-up or just tag your Instagram photos with #StarSpangledKids hashtag!  Mim has no less than half a dozen 4th of July outfits, so I'll be posting tons of photos. Can't wait to see your pictures!
TWO.  I haven't really talked about this here on the blog (mainly because it hasn't felt like my story to tell), but my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in January. Obviously, this has rocked our world.  Papa's been enduring chemo treatments for months and just finished last week right before Father's Day.  The tumors responded with significant shrinkage and we are so incredibly thrilled and grateful.  At this point we're not sure what the next steps will be, but I'm hoping this buys us many many more Father's Day celebrations with our hero.  These two kiddos are so lucky to have such a great papa.
THREE.  I just received my third Stitch Fix and was definitely not as excited about this box as I have been about the first two.  I asked for a pair of jeans and a summer dress and received both.  Hated both.  Apparently boyfriend jeans do not work on me, despite them being the right size and awesomely distressed.  And the cute striped dress they sent was just way too revealing for this uptight mom who hates showing a lot of skin.  Ugh.  However, they did send two really cute tops that I kept, so all hope was not lost.  One was a sleeveless henley in a really pretty blue (similar style to this) and the other was a loose-fitting oversized top with a grey t-shirt type front and a blousey polka dot back (like this). Both were super cute.  No, I do not have pictures because the lighting in my closet is atrocious and I was just too damn lazy to go anywhere else for a photo.  Anyone else still loving Stitch Fix?
FOUR.  Have you checked out the #AwayWeGo contest happening this summer over on Savvy Sassy Moms?   The giveaway is over $3,000 in amazing prizes!  And they're also hosting a couple photo contests on Instagram for additional prizes.  Last week's theme was Daddy & Me and the winning photos were awesome!  This week's theme is Beach Bums and the prize is a $500 gift certificate to My Publisher.  Think of all the awesome photo books and gifts you could make with that!  My entry of my happy children is above.  All you have to do is post a beach photo and tag it with the #AwayWeGo hashtag.
FIVE.  I'm pretty excited for the awesome verdict handed down by the Supreme Court today.  Love conquers all.

Happy Friday everyone!
Have a great weekend!

  1. Yay for today's decision!! (and kudos to you for a speedy blog update). I saw something was up when you posted the pictures of your kids with that t-shirt on Instagram, but didn't understand the details. That's tough, really tough, but great news in time for Father's Day. I haven't done Stitch Fix. I'm too much of a control freak.

  2. I've still only done Stitch Fix once...and I kept everything. Which makes me uber-scared to try it again!

  4. I'll definitely be joining in for this patriotic link up! Today is a very happy day! My brother and his husband were married last November in Canada. It's amazing that their marriage is now recognized in all 50 states now :).

  5. I've had one really bad stitch fix, but otherwise I still love it! And yay for the Supreme Court!

  7. I just went through Mila's closet the other day and I seriously have NO red, white, and blue for her to wear! Apparently I'm doing some shopping this weekend!

Sending good thoughts for your dad - hopefully the good news keeps on coming for him.

I just got my 4th Stitch Fix. I absolutely loved my first 2 boxes, but my second two weren't quite as great. I did still get one item in each that I liked and kept, and I'm hopeful for future boxes. I've heard that you need to be brutally honest with them.

And YAY for the Supreme Court Ruling - such wonderful news!

  8. I can not wait for my stitch fix boxes to start back up! I'm hoping to in August...and I'm also hoping to have shed a few more pp pounds before it gets here.

Excited for the link up! :)

  9. I would love to try Stitch Fix but every time I see a post that tells what they paid for the item, I get cold feet. I can't see spending that much on one item? I'm too much of a bargain hunter (read: cheap haha!). Do you feel their prices are reasonable?

  10. I haven't tried stitchfix yet - I'm on the fence!

We'll definitely have to link up to your linky! We have outfits lined up all week!

Have an awesome weekend the weather is supposed to be gorgeous - yay no rain!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, but so glad the tumors have shrunk.

  13. I'm still wishing and wanting to sign up for Stitch Fix but can't spend the money right now. Adding it to my birthday list for sure though!

  14. Woohoo! *round of applause for today's ruling* I can barely find clothes I like when I got to stores, so as much as I'd love to do Stitch Fix, I know it would end up being frustrating for me. Your shirts look really cute!

  15. I'm definitely going to need to join in on the Star Spangled Kids - thanks for helping arrange that! I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm sure the love and support from you guys means a whole lot.

  16. Can't believe July 4th is next weekend, WHAT?! Glad you mentioned your dad and those tee shirts are truly amazing. Just signed up for my very first Stitch Fix. Can't wait to hate it all! ;)

  17. Oh my heavens I didn't know about your Dad and I am so sorry to hear that. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers, I hope the chemo has bought him many more years with you all. On a bright note I am extremely happy that the US is FINALLY following suit on marriage equality! Such a huge day for you all!

  18. My sixth fix was FINALLY a hit! I only kept three things because I didn't want my husband to kill me, but I sure could have kept everything if it weren't for the prices! This 4th of July link up sounds super fun! I'm a sucker for festive-dressed kids! And lastly, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, but that it great news about his improvement. Thinking and praying that you get to spend many more years with him! Happy weekend!

  19. I'm actually drafting my last Stitch Fix post (and by that I mean I took the pictures and have yet to transfer them to my computer). I wasn't thrilled this time either and kept a necklace. The only reason I don't take accessories off my list all together is because they're the cheapest thing and I need a cheap out if the other stuff sucks!

  20. Can't wait to see the photos of the babes that link up with you all!! I predict a beautiful celebration of freedom next weekend - way to go SCOTUS! They got it right!!

  21. I'm so happy for the United States! This is such joyous news. I'm also so glad to hear that your dad's cancer is shrinking. I hope things only get better and better.

  22. What precious pics of your kiddo in his grandpa superhero shirt! I love those. And what a cute idea for the 4th of July outfit linkup. Now I just need to remember to take some pictures :) HAHA! Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

  25. Our 4th of July clothes are already out and being worn, starting today (and I'm totally using the hashtag a few days early - ;) )! We're celebrating all week long.

YAY for finishing up chemo treatments. Last day of chemo is almost better than Christmas.

    #lovewins - love it. :)

  26. I actually saw this hashtag on IG last night and was curious! Glad I found your post. So awesome. Prayers for your Daddy! I love the shirts. So sweet. I have been craving the beach something fierce lately. I guess we need to pack up and go so that I can join in that contest. Ha!

  27. Here's to hoping I'll have at least one decent pic of the kids to link up with, otherwise there will be lots of imperfectly perfect blurriness to share. :)
So glad to hear about your dad!!
Oh Stitch Fix, got two boxes, kept some stuff because I felt like I had to and jumping off that bandwagon til Fall I think. I caught myself passing on things I've wanted cause I wasn't sure what would be in my box, then buying something out of the 5 choices picked by someone else.. Wahwah. :)

  28. So very excited for your dad! We lost a family member in November to lung cancer and my heart skips when I hear someone diagnosed with it. Hope those treatments keep working and I'll keep him in my prayers!

  29. I just wanted to say I'm sorry about your dad's cancer but I'm so glad the treatment seemed effective. Thinking of you and your family...
