Stitch Fix - Sundance Edition

It's Stitch Fix time again! I'm so excited to share this Fix with you today. SF reveals are quickly becoming some of my favorite posts these days. I just love seeing what other people get, how things fit them and what they choose to keep or send back. It's almost like going shopping with a friend, right?

For anyone not familiar with the concept, Stitch Fix is a personal styling service where you fill out a style profile by answering questions about your likes/dislikes, style, sizing, price limits, etc. Your personal stylist chooses 5 items for you based on your profile and any specific requests you leave in the comments. You receive your 5 items, along with style cards that show you ways to wear each piece and you try on the clothes in the comfort of your home and decide what to keep or send back. You have 3 days to send back anything you don't want in a prepaid envelope. For each box you receive, there's a $20 styling fee, which will be deducted from the price of your receipt, should you keep anything. If you keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount on your purchase.
Since I knew I was heading to Park City at the end of the month for a bachelorette party during Sundance Film Festival, I requested some pieces that would work on that trip. I wanted faux fur and leather, warm mountainy clothing and something that would be trendy/glamourous for a bachelorette party. I had another new stylist this month (my last three boxes have all been with different stylists and I don't know why) and "Leslie" picked some cute pieces that had a lot of potential and a few pieces that left me a bit underwhelmed and confused. Above is the note I received with my fix.

Ok...on with the fashion show!
First up was this adorable camel coat with a faux fur trimmed hood. I love this coat, but definitely think it's more like a jacket (not very warm). The color is great, I like the asymmetric zipper and love the fur on the hood. I do wish it was a bit warmer, but I like that it wasn't super bulky or hard to pack. I think it fit well, so long as the clothes I wore under the coat were thin layers...I tried wearing a thick sweater with it and felt like I was going to rip the seams out of the back of the coat. (Picture me walking around with my arms raised and singing "fat girl in a little coat" like Chris Farley.)

VERDICT: Kept

This one baffled me as to why my stylist thought it was appropriate for the mountains or glamorous enough that it would work for a bachelorette party. I hated this. I felt like I was wearing a marching band top from the 70's (or maybe a member of Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band). The shirt itself was not flattering on me and I really hated the gold/silver weaving on the top. The sleeves did have cute tabs so you could roll them, however, since it's January, I wanted to keep them down, which meant they were way too long. I do appreciate v-neck tops, but this one definitely didn't do me any favors since it had a really high neckline and a weird collar. I usually love black and metallics, but this was just not working for me.

VERDICT: Returned

I thought this sweater had a lot of potential when I read about it in my note, but when I pulled it out of the box I immediately knew it wasn't going to work for me. First off, the cut-outs just don't work on someone with breasts. Even with a tan camisole underneath, the cutouts drew unwanted attention to all the wrong places. The cutouts on the back were fine, but the front was awkward. The sweater was a dark hunter/army green and just didn't really work for me. I love bight green, hunter green does nothing for me. I think I'm going to modify my profile to stop receiving items in this color - it just doesn't work for me. And finally, the shape/cut wasn't very flattering. It didn't hang all that well and looked a bit frumpy. Also, not warm.

VERDICT: Returned

I have to admit that these jeans fit great and were so incredibly comfortable. However, I already have a pair of grey jeans and honestly, I never wear them. I've had them for about a year and I've only worn them a handful of times. They're just not what I reach for when I get dressed, so I knew I probably wouldn't get much use out of these either, even though they fit really well. Had they been black or a distressed denim I probably would have kept them.

VERDICT: Returned

Echo - Alma Stitch Detail Triangle Scarf
I usually don't choose to receive any accessories from Stitch Fix (clothing only), but I recently changed my style profile to receive scarves (just this once) and am so glad I did. This was by far my favorite item included in my fix this month. This scarf is so awesome! I love the colors (can wear with black, grey or tan), I love the tassels/poms on the end, I love the triangle shape. It's thick and warm and so soft. I have nothing like this in my closet and was so excited to wear this in Park City. I got tons of compliments on the scarf and now want to wear it all the time (is it weird to wear a scarf to bed?).

VERDICT: Kept

  1. The coat is really cute and I love the fur detail. You're right about the cut out shirt. I've had items like that where it's cute in theory, but then you put it on and it's like, hello these are my boobs. The scarf was a definite keeper. Okay, you're reminding me why I like fashion posts and I need to keep doing them. By the way, everything looks cute with those brown riding boots.

  2. Fur is so in and I really want a fur vest but don't want to spend a fortune! I really should have looked harder at tj maxx this winter! I am in love with that scarf!!! And I like the gray jeans but totally understand why you didn't keep them. I had a pair that I barely wore either!

  3. Love that coat! And I also thought you got the top in the grey jeans pictures in your fix and I was like oooooh that's cute! And realized it was something you already owned haha. I love StitchFix but dropped down to every other month because I wasn't getting consistent boxes. And then I had one stylist who was great but then she dropped the ball a few times. Womp.

  7. Good call on all things! I would have kept the jeans, but I don't have gray jeans already :) They were adorable on you, though.
(And I'm in Michigan. I have a scarf permanently attached to my neck from about November to March...)

  8. I love the scarf! I feel like most things I see from Stitch Fix are just underwhelming. Although to be fair I have never received a box!

  10. I just did my Stitch Fix review today, too!!! Ok, my absolute favorite item in your box is that COAT! I love it. They sent me a parka recently and I had to send it back, because I usually only allow myself to buy 1 item from each box! I know, its torture! I thought I'd stop by and say 'Hello'!! I follow you on IG :)

  11. The coat is so cute! I laughed at the imagine you shared though. :) he scarf is awesome too. The cutout shirt was a definite no. My eyes immediately went to the ladies. But the back was cute. Damn it for having the cutouts in the front.

  20. You had me at gift card. But no really. I seriously LOVE that scarf!!!!! Everything about it. I'm glad you kept that! Personally, I don't like fur but I do love that jacket on you! I love the detailing on the zipper. Bummer on it not being warmer though. I did love the jeans on you but completely understand about not needing/wanting gray jeans if you already have some and don't wear them.

  23. I totally agree with all your choices!! That coat looks really good on you. I kept measuring everything against that, lol

  24. I actually like the hunter green sweater, but I'm a sucker for non-bright greens. If you still had it I'd try a brown or black cabin underneath to see if you liked that better.

  25. I totally agree with what you kept! I love the jacket and the scarf! I love the cutouts on the back of the Margo shirt...but think they should have made the front solid.
