DIY Diaper Changing Car Kit

As Mac gets older, we are more on the go with much less fuss and prep.  It's wonderful!  I remember leaving the house those first few times with a newborn and taking every single thing we thought we might possibly ever need, which took up the entire back seat and at least 45 minutes to pack the car!  Do you remember those days?  I thought we would never leave the house again.  Now, Mac is really easy to pack for. Basically, I've found that as long as we have diapers and wipes, we can manage just about everything else.  But it seems like we're always in a hurry.  I can't even begin to tell you the number of times I've left the house recently and accidentally left the diaper bag at home.  Or I remember to grab the diaper bag, only to have not stocked it in weeks so I don't have the item(s) I want or need.  #momfail

A few months ago I saw the idea on Pinterest (seriously, what did we do before Pinterest?) to create a mobile diaper changing kit/station for your car, so you always have what you need, without having to drag a giant diaper bag around.  With our trip to the ranch last weekend I finally decided it was time to pull the trigger and make our kit, so we wouldn't have to take a huge diaper bag in addition to all our other luggage.  I'm actually really happy with how it turned out and we used it all weekend long, since we were in and out of our car the whole time.
I just grabbed an extra basket from Mac's nursery that we weren't really using and put all the essentials in there.  I love that it's really easily accessible and holds a lot of items.  I might change out the basket for a bin with a lid in the future, but for now, this works perfectly.
1 // Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean Wipes  2 // band-aids  3 // diapers  4 // antibacterial wipes  5 // stain pen  6 // antibacterial gel  7 // antibacterial spray  8 // Boogie wipes  9 // chapstick  10 // alcohol pads and antibiotic cream  11 // Advil (for mom)  12 // diaper cream  13 // sunscreen  14 // sippy cup  15 // swim diapers  16 // suckers

(Other items you could include, but not pictured: tissues, changing pad, disposable bags, granola bar/snacks, bug spray, change of clothes, lotion, cough drops, sewing kit, crayons, pen, notepad, nail clippers, stickers, sunglasses)
Other than the diapers, the wipes are probably the most important element in the kit.  A few times over the weekend I'd just grab a diaper out of the kit and this clutch of wipes and stick them in my purse for an instant diaper bag.  Not only are they pretty stylish, but I really like the sturdiness of the Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean wipes because I don't feel like they will leak in my purse or dry out in the hot summer sun.  The clutch is also refillable, which is awesome because it's so much cheaper buying wipes in bulk.  And I like the Huggies Natural Care wipes because they're really thick and gentle on sensitive skin.  I use wipes on everything from cleaning up cat puke, removing makeup, wiping off the counters (or the dashboard of my car) and for getting all the crud off the car seat.  You can seriously never have too many diaper wipes.
I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out.  Now I can rededicate our diaper bag to Mim's needs and keep this stocked for Mac.  It's really great having these items all within arms reach in the car.

Anyone else have a mobile diaper changing kit in the car?
What's in yours?

At Home Lifestyle Maternity Photos

I'm so excited to share some photos with you today!  My very good friend Jessica (who I've blogged about many many many times), is getting started with her own photography business, building up her portfolio and asked me if she could practice on me and my bump.  Of course, the bump obliged!  You know Mim, she wants her time in the spotlight too!

Anyway, I had a vision in mind about what I wanted the photos to look like and Jessica nailed it.  I really wanted intimate, cozy, natural photos of the bump, focusing on the curves and beauty of pregnancy, with lots of fun angles and cropping and black and white.  Picky, picky, picky, right?! Luckily, Jess is amazing and worked her magic to give me exactly the mood and look I was going for.  She was so patient with me and encouraging.  We tried all kinds of things (and outfits) and had a blast hanging out and catching up.  She was so great about asking what I liked and didn't like about photos (and me in photos).  She was so sensitive about the areas that I'm self-conscious about and never made me feel stupid for voicing my concerns.

I was really truly blown away when I saw the photos.  I really couldn't love these photos more, if I tried.  Maybe chalk it up to weight gain, but I really haven't LOVED any photos of myself since my wedding photos.  But these - I love!  Weirdly enough, I really do feel beautiful when I'm pregnant and I feel like she captured that.  Not to sound conceited or anything, but I think I look beautiful in these photos!  And that, my friends, is a huge compliment to the photographer.  When we took these, I was about 29 weeks pregnant at the time.  I felt like the bump was HUGE at the time, which makes me giggle because it's double this size now.  Most of these were taken in our bedroom, with a few in Mim's nursery (although it wasn't anywhere close to ready).

So anyway, without further ado...

Love.

Thank you so much, Jessica.

June Recap

Well, according to Instagram, we had a pretty fun and active June!  I didn't manage to post a photo every single day, but I think I did a decent job covering all the big stuff that happened last month.  I still can't believe it's now July.  You guys...I'm having a baby THIS MONTH!!  How is that even possible?  Anyway, here's a recap of our month.
And if you are participating in the Fourth of July Recipe Swap, go check out Alyssa's blog to see who you got matched up with.  I'm really excited to try the frozen berry yogurt bark that I got!  Score!

Blogger Birthday Gift Exchange

A few weeks ago, the always-fabulous Elizabeth from Chasin' Mason asked if Mac and I wanted to participate in a Birthday Gift Exchange with a few other bloggers that all have little ones turning two over the last/next month.  Never one to back down from a chance to give/gift toys to a kiddo, we gladly signed up!  We were absolutely thrilled to be paired up with one of my all-time favorite bloggers, Natasha from Schue Love and her adorable son Ethan.  I knew I wanted to get Ethan something tried and true that Mac loved and I wanted him involved in the process, so I printed out pictures of five of his favorite toys (one, two, three, four, five) and asked him which one he wanted to give to Ethan.  We talked a little about Ethan and his birthday and sang him the happy birthday song.  I wish I would have got it on video - that would have been smart.  Anyway, Mac knew immediately what he wanted to give Ethan - you'll have to head over to Natasha's blog to see what he chose and whether it was a hit with him.

Mac was lucky enough to be the recipient of an awesome birthday gift from the incredibly stylish duo of Jess and Sadie from Sadie Sky Boutique blog.  Knowing Mac's love of all things truck, tractor and garbage truck, I have to say that they absolutely nailed his gift!
He was so excited to open it!  I made him wait until after dinner one night and he spent the preceeding two hours pointing to the gift and saying, "Mac's present!  Happy birthday!  Two!"
As he was opening it, he kept making the most hilarious "ohhhh" face.  Of course, he was not thrilled that I had the camera out, so he wouldn't even look in my direction, but it was adorable.
The first part was a Melissa and Doug car carrier.  BIG HIT.  He loved this!
He calls it a "Carporter" (car transporter) and thinks it's the greatest thing ever.
The second part of the gift was a book about garbage trucks called "I Stink"!
Mac thinks this book is hilarious and we've read it every single night since he opened it.
He loves the page where the truck burps.
Carporters and garbage trucks!
Talk about one happy boy!
Thank you so much, Sadie and Jess!  You guys did such a great job picking out "boy toys" for Mac.  We loved the card and the gifts!  And I forgot to take a picture, but they even included a pretty pink hair bow for Mim from Jess's Etsy shop!  That was so incredibly thoughtful and sweet of you guys!  I just love this blogging community!
Happy second birthday to all the kiddos participating!  If you need birthday gift ideas, go check out the other blogs to see what everyone got!
