October Apples at Eckert's Orchards

A few weeks ago we decided to skip the family weekend trip to the pumpkin patch and hit up the apple orchard instead, thinking it might be slightly less crowded and chaotic. We were wrong. Nonetheless, we survived the 40 minute drive with minimal whining (yay!) and even managed to wait in line for 20 minutes without multiple meltdowns or any escape attempts (unheard of!). Mac was so pumped about picking apples he didn't even want to hit the little carnival kid's area or feed the goats. He was all about the apples.

The tractor/wagon ride was always a highlight and we popped off at the first stop to  pick as many apples as we could carry. Both kids immediately started chowing down on the apple of their choice. Mac ate at least 7 and Mim held on to her apple so tight we probably couldn't have pried it out of her hands with a crowbar! She guarded it with such ferocity that she actually growled at anyone that got close to her that might take her apple away. Do not get between Mimmy and her food - we've all learned that lesson. Anyway, it was a really nice way to spend a crisp fall morning and we ended up bringing home about 40 pounds of apples and eating most of them. At this rate we shouldn't need to see a doctor until the year 2026.

Did you go apple picking this fall?

  7. The last time we went apple picking it was a freaking ZOO. Seriously - never again! This looks like fun though and I am glad you handed the camera over and got behind the lens, I really need to do that more!

  8. What fun! And you got so many great photos too! I especially love the one of Mim giving Mac a bite of her apple :) Which lens did you use? We never made it to the apple farm this year :( They were all gone (from what we heard) by the time we wanted to go in mid September. I'm sure the drought we're having in CA is to blame.

LOLing at the pic of you with the kids and Mac acting all teenager about having to stand there and take a pic-the face and arms hanging, haha!! Rough life, huh?! :) And YOU, looking all svelte and stuff..!!

  11. I love that Mac was all about the apples. If there was a kids carnival involved Mason would have been like apples?! What apples?! Ha. I’m jealous of many things here; the fabulous pictures you always take, that you have an apple orchard nearby, and that you are getting crisp Fall weather.

  13. Your kids are just the cutest! And I love that Mim was so possessive of her apple! We went but in September when it was almost too warm to be picking apples... At least what I envision it to be ;)

  17. Oh my goodness! Mim looks like she LOVES apples. Literally like every other picture is her chowing down!
We went apple picking twice... one time after the season was pretty much over and all we could do was make cider (which was delicious!) and the other time during the peak of the season and it was a ZOO. I'd totally go back but it's a little over an hour away in good traffic and since they don't serve beer, I'm not sure I can convince Seth to take me :)

  19. Basically the best time ever. And naturally you snagged so many great pictures.
So jealous of your apple picking trip. We were supposed to go ages ago - when it was a million degrees (no thanks), and then sicknesses hit (fun times). Now the orchards are all picked clean. Next year is our year for the orchard!

  25. Too funny about the growling bit! And now that you mention it, Mim does seem to be either biting into an apple or chewing in each and every picture. So many adorable photos. Ez was gorging himself on apples when we went too. I think the fact that food grows on trees was a really novel idea to him. Usually apples just magically appear in the bowl on the counter ;)
