Running from the Law: Mr. Personality

Mr. Personality

Looking back through a lot of my recent posts, I sometimes wonder if Mac's real personality comes through in photos.  So many of the pictures I take of him are of the back/top of his head, him looking somewhere else, busy doing something or fleeing from the camera.  He always ends up looking so serious and moody in pictures.  I've struggled over the last few months to get some really great photos of him looking at me that truly capture just how happy and silly he is.
So you can imagine my surprise last week when I pulled out my camera during bath time and somehow managed to get a ton of photos of Mac looking right at me, being his usual smiley, happy, goofball self.  He didn't seem to even care about the camera and he certainly couldn't escape.   I think I finally captured his real personality in photos.  These pictures just melt my heart.   They are so "Mac."
It's crazy though, in so many of these photos he looks like family members.  I see his Uncle Justin, his Uncle Timmy, my dad, myself and Ryan all in him at different times.  And not to get all scientific on you or anything, but aren't genetics just amazing?  It's so wild to think of all the combinations of genes that could be possible and to realize how incredibly lucky we are to get the Mac that we did.  It makes me so excited to see what Mim is going to look like and who she'll be.
Anyway (that was a weird digression), I just love looking bath at all the bath photos I've taken of this kid and seeing how much he's changed.  He's such a big boy these days and insists on doing everything himself, from brushing his own teeth to washing his own hair.  I'm just not sure how he got this big so quickly.  Next thing I know he'll be driving the car and stealing our booze.
He's a total trouble-maker.  As soon as he hears me say not to do something, that's guaranteed to be the only thing in the world he wants to do.  "Don't eat the bubbles" makes him lap them up like a dog.  "Don't splash mama" becomes a mission to get me as soaking wet as he can from across the room.  "Don't laugh" makes him hysterical!   Bath time with this one is never dull.
 Man, I love this kid.

  5. Such a happy boy! Love his eyes. What's it like having a child that looks like you lol. Max still really doesn't look like either of us. I wouldn't trade him for anything though!

  6. Adorable photos! It's funny how the sight of a camera can change personalities! Adults and kids can change just based on comfortable it makes them.

  10. I love taking bath pics of my kids because of the inescapability factor. What a sweet boy you have! And yes, genetics are fascinating.

  11. I started following your blog when Mac was a baby. It has been so much fun to watch him grow into this playful, loving, free spirit. He's so adorable.

  12. There's something about bath time that just makes kids true personalities come out! These pictures are GREAT! I love them! I, too, feel like these days I only get pictures of Mason's head or the back of him or something. I'm lucky if he will even look at the camera and not smile let alone smile. I swear he knows I'm trying to get a picture and he frowns on purpose! Toddlers.

  13. Aww, you totally can see his personality in these photos! Looks like quite the bath time! I can never capture Liam's true self either. As soon as he sees my camera, he gives it this mean mug as if to say "mom, put that down! Can we back to playing?!" Ha!

  15. I think our boys might be long lost brothers (though I'm certain you and I would know if we'd carried an extra child somewhere along the way). From the pictures that might not show just how silly and happy the little boys are, to the naughty streak… I love that you were able to capture the Mac that sometimes isn't caught in pictures.
    Awesome photos, Sara!
